Master Photographer ALBERT WATSON

is the Event Patron of PHOTOPIA Hamburg 2023

Albert Watson has been renowned for decades in the world of fashion, fine art and commercial photography for his outstanding pictures, making his mark on the covers and most iconic magazines of our time. Since the beginning of his career in 1970, the Scottish-born photographer's images have appeared on more than 100 covers of Vogue worldwide and have been featured in numerous other publications – from Rolling Stone to Time to Harper's Bazaar. With impressive portraits and fashion shots of celebrities such as Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger, Steve Jobs, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, he is one of the 20 most influential photographers in history, according to the trade publication “Photo District News”. Albert Watson is the patron of PHOTOPIA Hamburg 2023 after Ellen von Unwerth (2021) and Rankin (2022) and will present a selection of his exhibits at the Festival of Imaging.

The exceptional photographer – Albert Watson has been blind in one eye since birth – has also photographed hundreds of advertising campaigns for major companies such as Prada, The Gap, Levi's, Revlon and Chanel, as well as dozens of movie posters for Hollywood films such as “Kill Bill” and “Memoirs of a Geisha”. He has also directed more than 100 television commercials. While his images reflect a seemingly effortless precision and aesthetic, they are nonetheless imbued with their own characteristic rules, concepts, and technical virtuosity. His pursuit of perfection has made Albert Watson one of the most sought-after photographers in the world.
