PHOTOPIA Hamburg presented a selection of current winning projects of the PROFIFOTO NEW TALENT AWARD 22/2 - 23/1 - powered by Canon and printed by WhiteWall - at its Summit from 21 - 24 September.
PHOTOPIA Hamburg has been the official cooperation partner of the PROFIFOTO NEW TALENT AWARD since 2021. The award has been honouring photographic projects of international photographic talents since 2006 and is offered twice a year by Canon and ProfiFoto in cooperation with WhiteWall and the photo agency laif. The spectrum of photo projects honoured by the NEW TALENT AWARD ranges from reportage to intimate insights into the photographers' formative memories to critical views of socially relevant topics. What is needed are concepts that are realised by the talents with the support of the competition. Once a year, the jury also selects the three best-of-best works of the two most recent NEW TALENT AWARD competitions, which are endowed with a total of 3,000 euros. The ten winners of the current calls for entries 22/2 to 23/1 will be presented with 30 large-format exhibits at PHOTOPIA Hamburg. All exhibits are produced in impressive museum quality by the online profile lab Whitewall, which specialises in high-quality gallery prints. At the ProfiFoto New Talent Award 22/2 to 23/1 - powered by Canon - around 17,000 images were submitted by more than 1,700 international photographers. About 62 per cent of the participants were male, about 36 per cent female. The youngest entrant was born in 2006, the oldest in 1948. The jury included the Artistic Director of PHOTOPIA Hamburg, Christian Popkes, as well as Thomas Alscheid (Whitewall), Silke Frigge and Lars Bober (laif photo agency), Florian Kussmann and Guido Krebs (Canon), Julia Laatsch (spokesperson for Deutscher Fotorat and advisory board member for Freelens), food photographer Sonja Hofmann, Nadine Dinter (photography expert, columnist and curator) and Petra and Thomas Gerwers (ProfiFoto).
