Leica Camera Group: More sales

The Leica Camera Group once again increased its sales in the past fiscal year 2022/2023 (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023) and achieved a new record result.

Compared to the previous year, sales reached a new high of € 485 million (previous year: € 444 million) thanks to a significant increase of nine percent. This is already the third record year in a row for the Leica Camera Group, marking an outstanding product success and a disproportionately high increase in operating profit. The international premium manufacturer of cameras and sports optics products can thus draw a positive balance from the past financial year and forecasts a promising future development.

The Leica M11 from the current product portfolio of the Leica rangefinder system is one of the key success factors of the past financial year. Leica products, especially the camera models, are synonymous with longevity and high value retention and are also very popular in used condition. A rare Leica 0-series camera from 1923/24, for example, set the world record for the most expensive camera of all time at the 40th Leitz Photographica Auction last year, selling for 14.4 million euros (including premium).
The successful course is to be continued in the current financial year (April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024) with new products. The online business and the continuous expansion of the global Leica distribution and retail network also continue to develop positively. With the opening of additional stores (with Leica Gallery) in Paris, Mexico City, Amsterdam and New York in 2023 and 2024, the company has further consolidated its business in strategically important premium markets and now has more than 100 monobrand stores worldwide. Sales via the company's own stores increased by EUR 16 million (13%) compared to the previous year.
The Leica community is constantly expanding with a wide range of activities to promote the art of photography, which are an integral part of the Leica brand culture. The Leica Galleries and Academies around the world make a significant contribution to this. With currently 27 Leica Galleries, the company runs the world's largest gallery network, which continues to grow and, together with the Leica Welt in Leitz-Park Wetzlar, the Leica Group's corporate headquarters, brings the fascination of photography to life as the art of the 21st century.The expansion of new business areas will continue to contribute to positive sales development in the future. In addition to the strategic partnership with smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi in the Mobile Imaging segment, the focus in the Mobile Business division is on the further development of the Leitz Phone, which is currently only sold in Japan. Leica enters the home cinema segment with the sales launch of its first own Cinema TV (Leica Cine 1).
Also in 2023, the subsidiary Leica Eyecare established its own ophthalmic lens production facility. In cooperation with the subsidiary Ernst Leitz Werkstätten, the company also offers a watch collection.
